The 19th Annual Portland Zine Symposium is coming up this Saturday and Sunday, July 20 and 21, at the Pacific Northwest College of Art! If you’re in town and love supporting independent creators, self-publishing, and marginalized voices then you should so come out and check out the event! There will be dozens of folx selling their zines, comics, and handmade artistry all weekend as well as a two-day slate of awesome programming. And you’ll also have the opportunity to come see me give a presentation on zine making and distribution! The blurb:
So you’ve got your ideas at the ready and you wanna make your zine but you don’t know where to start. There’s so many ways to make and distribute your zines that it can all feel so daunting. The great thing is there is no wrong way to express yourself in zine form and get your work out there! In this workshop we’ll talk about old school and new school methods to create and distribute your zines, including old school and new school approaches to preparing and creating content, free to dirt-cheap programs for digital editing and printing, and the many avenues of distribution.
If you’re interested in zine-making and self-publishing and don’t know when to start come on down to PNCA on Saturday, July 20, from 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm and plant yourself in a seat in the Rainbow Room! I love doing this talk, as it gives me the opportunity to share a whole lotta info with folx who are new to zines and self-publishing view both as, well, not as daunting as they seem. Hope to see some of y’all there!
